From a caterpillar to a butterfly!

This weeks focus was on caterpillars!  A few weeks ago my sister bought my girls a butterfly keeper.  We then ordered the caterpillars and have been able to watch them in their various stages.  Right now they are hanging in the keeper in their cocoons!  It has been so much fun to watch them move into the various stages...I really hope they turn into butterflies!  We did quiet a few activities relating to caterpillars.  It is hard not to just move into the butterfly stage...so next week we will continue on and focus a little more on butterflies.

Bible Verse and Devotion:  We discussed anticipation...like how we are anticipating the Lord's return some day and how we are anticipating to have butterflies...someday.  The bible verse for this week  1/2 of:

Daniel 12:12:  Blessed is the one who waits (referring to the coming of the Lord)

We read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and a few other library books about butterflies.
The girls loved the hungry caterpillar story so we did a little cut out activity with what the caterpillar ate.  The punched holes in all of the food items and sewed some yarn through the holes.
You can find a link here with the printouts from the story:   printout link

The kids also painted egg cartons and made caterpillars out of them.

We watched a few cool YouTube videos on the stages of a caterpillar to butterfly.  There are quiet a few cool ones out there that the kids enjoyed, so just type in the keywords and you can watch a few.

Easton also got in on the action in his class that he takes at the YMCA.  They made butterflies out with their hand prints.  So sweet!

2 more weeks of school and it is summer break for us!!!!!!!!

  1. We just got a butterfly kit, and can't wait to to get our caterpillars! I'm saving this post - love the idea of punching holes in the items from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and stringing them together. I'm looking forward to doing a lot of fun caterpillar and butterfly activities! Thanks for sharing. :)
