....that our oldest, Jocelyn (age 7) is going to be baptized on Sunday!!!!
Why is she getting baptized?
I have written a few times about how you can get saved.
You can read about it: Here.
Here.
and there are others...
But wasn't she baptized as a baby?
No. We aren't seeing that written in the Bible. Correct me if I am wrong. Not seeing it.
It is not required for salvation, but one of the three symbols in the Bible-- the cup/loaf (Jesus' life/blood), the head covering, and water baptism.
A baptism is a Christian's outward testimony of faith. It illustrates the believers identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. The action of being baptized under water symbolizes dying and being buried with Christ. Coming out of the water is a picture of Christ's resurrection.
Salvation is a FREE gift that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus. It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation.
There are a ton of verses in the Bible about baptism Lots of stories about people getting saved and then being baptized.
Matthew 28:19, 20 “Go
ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Mark 1:4, 5 “John
did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for
the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of
Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river
of Jordan, confessing their sins.”
Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
Acts 2:38 “Then
Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 8:35-38 “Then
Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached
unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain
water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water;what doth hinder me to be
baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou
mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the
Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went
down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch;and he baptized
him.”
Acts 16:31, 33 “And
they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,
and thy house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed
their stripes;and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.”
These are just a few....
